Art’s Chair
Why I think being a hairdresser is one of the most important jobs of all time.
A hairstylist works at the intersection of identity and emotion. Our hair is one of the first things people notice and one of the last things that we feel comfortable about.
Changing the hair changes the way a person sees and feels about themselves. We hold a level of trust that most professions are unable to touch. Our clients reveal things that they do not tell friends, family or even therapists. When someone works on your hair people tend to relax and let their guard down. A good hairstylist can lift someone out of a low moment, while a bad haircut can take weeks to recover from. That is real “Human Power”. As stylists we see people through every chapter of their lives.
- Breakups
- New Job
- Pregnancies
- Reinventions
We see it all while quietly supporting the person in our chair. We influence culture more than people realize.
Hair Shapes Fashion
Hair defines decades
Hair creates icons
No trend becomes a trend without the hairstylist behind the chair. That’s just not providing a service, that’s power.
As hairstylists, we change lives. One person, one moment, one transformation at a time. This is why this profession matters more than trends, titles, or techniques.
That is impact. Remember your worth.
